“How to get the best items in Diablo 4”

Masterworking is the new endgame crafting system added to Diablo 4, that allows players to make their Items stronger by increasing their existing affixes value by a maximum of 12 times. Masterworks can be done at any Blacksmith in the game and use special crafting materials obtained in The Pit of the Artificers. Masterworking replaces the old Blacksmith's Gear Upgrade system and the Jeweler's Ring and Amulet Upgrade system.

“How to unlock Masterworking in Diablo 4”

1. Complete a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon by reaching World Tier 4. (This will unlock the Pit of the Artificers.)

2. Complete one Pit to gain Obducite, a Masterwork material.

3. As you complete different tiers of the Pit, you'll gain Obducite (1-20), Ingolith (21-40) and Neathiron (41+).

4. Head to any Blacksmith and select the "Masterworks" option.

5. Here, you can upgrade Unique or Ancestral Legendary Items with Gold and Pit materials.

Masterworking Materials

Masterworking materials can be farmed in The Pit of Artificers and are as follows:

• ‍Obducite is obtained from The Pit Tier—1 to Tier 29—and is used to upgrade Items from Masterwork Rank 1 to 4.

• ‍Ingolith is obtained from The Pit—Tier 30 to Tier 59—and is used to upgrade Items from Masterwork Rank 5 to 8.

  • ‍Ingolith can be Transmuted at the Alchemist into ‍Obducite Caches that contain multiple ‍Obducite.

• ‍Neathiron is obtained from The Pit—Tier 60 to Tier 200—and is used to upgrade Items from Masterwork Rank 9 to 12.

  • ‍Neathiron can be Transmuted at the Alchemist into ‍Ingolith Caches that contains multiple ‍Ingolith.

Higher ranks have higher material costs. In addition to the rare materials listed above, Masterworking requires other materials including Gold, ‍Iron Chunk, ‍Rawhide, ‍Veiled Crystals, ‍Abstruse Sigils,‍ Baleful Fragments,‍ Coiling Wards, and Forgotten Souls.

Masterworking Bonuses

Upgrading the Masterworking Ranks on an Item increase all of its affixes by 5% with Ranks 4, 8, and 12 massively upgrading one of your equipped affixes by 25%. This larger bonus is known as a Masterworking Crit or Proc? All Masterworking bonuses are additive with each other and additive with the 50% bonus associated with Greater Affixes. Affixes that have whole-number values have their values rounded down after their bonuses are applied.

• Rank 1, 2, 3: +5% to all affixes

• Rank 4: +25% to one random affix

• Rank 5, 6, 7: +5% to all affixes

• Rank 8: +25% to one random affix

• Rank 9, 10, 11: +5% to all affixes

• Rank 12: +25% to one random affix

Rank 12 total bonus for Masterworks Crits on the same affix

• 0 Masterworks Crits: +45%

• 1 Masterworks Crit: +70%

• 2 Masterworks Crits: +95%

• 3 Masterworks Crits: +120%

Rerolling Masterworked Items

As mentioned earlier Masterworking’s maximum rank is Rank 12. If you are unsatisfied with the results or if the Masterworks Crit have randomly proc’d on affixes that you don’t like, Masterworking Ranks can be reset and start over.

It is recommended to reset you Masterworking Rank at Rank 4 or 8 in worst case scenario. Resetting at Rank 12 is not cost efficient.

In Conclusion

Masterworking System upgrades your items even further and can be accessed at any Blacksmith.

Required materials to masterwork can be earned from The Pit of Artificers.

Masterworking can only be done on Ancestral Items that is either Unique or fully-tempered.

The maximum Rank of Masterworking is 12 with Ranks 4, 8, and 12 massively upgrading one of your equipped affixes by 25%.

Masterworking ranks can be reset and start over if unsatisfied with the results.
